As a professional in the health care field, they have to learn basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In addition, phlebotomist are required to understand the normal values of the blood result in order to inform the nurses whenever there is a critical value. This value can either be dangerously high or  low.

At the end of the training they receive certification. In addition, in order to keep current and maintain professional growth, they have to improve their knowledge by attending continuing education seminars. This allows them to keep up with new trends in the profession.
