There are more than 35 universities and colleges in and around the Bay Area, Ca. Phlebotomy training is offered at many of the top schools in this area, including Santa Rosa Junior College, Cabrillo College, De Anza College, and San Francisco City College.
Each of the different schools offers a certification program for phlebotomists that will give you the skills you need to start this rewarding and profitable career.
City College of San Francisco

City College of San Francisco serves over 100,000 students at its ten different community college locations. The school offers a certificate program in phlebotomy through their career and technical education department. The program takes between four and five months to complete and offers a rigorous curriculum that includes collecting samples and completing an externship.
Upon completing certificate requirements, students are able to apply for certification through the California Department of Public Health’s Laboratory Field Services division, allowing them to practice phlebotomy legally anywhere within the state.
Students can also seek certification through national organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the National Health Career Association, and the National Phlebotomy Association.
Santa Rosa Junior College

Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) is the first public institution in Sonoma County to offer a phlebotomy certificate. SRJC is part of one of the largest college districts in the country, serving about 40,000 students each semester. The Health Sciences Department is excited to offer the Phlebotomy curriculum in conjunction with other medical certificate and licensure programs.
The program is far more affordable than private courses, and students will be able to complete the state classroom and lab requirements for their certificate in as little as eight weeks. Students will complete courses such as Medical Microbiology, Phlebotomies, Computer Labs, Basic Physical and Biological Science, and Anatomy and Physiology.
Upon completion of coursework, students will receive a phlebotomy skills certificate and then may go on to complete the California State Phlebotomy Certificate.

Cabrillo College

Cabrillo College is found in Aptos California, in Santa Cruz County. Most of the courses available at Cabrillo College are transferrable to the University of California or California State University.
The college offers courses in several satellite locations throughout Santa Cruz County. Students who complete the course, which includes the Phlebotomy Series, Intro to Medical Assisting Procedures, Intro to Health Careers, Medical Assisting Lab, and Medical Terminology, receive the Phlebotomy Technician Skills Certificate.
Students will be prepared to apply for a California State Phlebotomy license. Entry into Cabrillo’s program does not require a college application, simply sign up for courses on a first-come, first-served basis to complete your degree on your time.
De Anza College

The campus of De Anza College is located just 45 miles south of San Francisco in the Silicon Valley. De Anza College offers phlebotomy training as part of their Health Technology Medical Assisting programs. One of the features that makes De Anza’s program unique is that it is available to all types of learners, offering both day and evening classes along with distance learning. Courses required are:

De Anza’s phlebotomy technician program has been approved by the California Department of Public Health-Laboratory Field Services division. Upon completion, the student will receive a Certificate of Achievement-Phlebotomy Technician I.
